UMU’s Commitment to Sustainable Production
Local, Fair Craftsmanship
At UMU, every garment is designed and sewn locally. We currently produce all garments in Tallinn, Estonia. By producing our clothes here, we support local artisans and ensure that no child labor from developing countries is involved in the production process—an issue that unfortunately persists in the global fashion industry.
Organic Materials
We prioritize materials that are kind to both the environment and the people who make and wear our garments. Most of our fabric selection is certified by either GOTS or OEKOTEX, ensuring organic and eco-friendly quality. All our fabrics are sourced from trusted suppliers in Europe.
Small-Scale, On-Demand Production
The global textile industry is one of the largest polluters on the planet. Producing just 1 kg of cotton requires 20,000 liters of water, contributing to 20% of all industrial water pollution and 10% of global CO2 emissions—more than the aviation and shipping industries combined. Despite these figures, overproduction remains rampant, with an estimated 40% of purchased clothing never being worn.
At UMU, most of our garments are made only after an order is placed. We keep a small selection available through carefully chosen retailers, which typically find buyers quickly or are repurposed if necessary.
Quality That Lasts
By using premium fabrics and maintaining the highest stitching standards, we ensure that our garments are built to last. This commitment to quality extends the lifespan of our products, offering timeless pieces that can be cherished for years to come.
